Established in 1932, Legal Aid DC is a leading organization providing civil legal services to underserved communities in Washington, DC. Focusing on consumer law, housing, family law, and public benefits, it also drives systemic reform through policy advocacy and impact litigation, with a strong commitment to racial justice and equity.

  • Lead legislative and policy advocacy at the DC Council and agencies.
  • Develop and implement Legal Aid’s law reform agenda.
  • Build relationships with policymakers, stakeholders, and community organizations.
  • Conduct legal and data analysis, draft legislative proposals, and prepare testimony.
  • Supervise policy staff, mentor junior attorneys, and coordinate the Community Advisory Council.
  • Minimum 7 years of policy and legislative advocacy experience; DC Council experience preferred.
  • J.D. strongly preferred; MPP or equivalent degree considered.
  • Commitment to social, economic, and racial justice.
  • Strong supervisory, communication, and legislative drafting skills.
  • Multilingual ability (Spanish, Amharic, or other community languages) is a plus.
