The Western Cape Division of the High Court, partnered with the University of Cape Town’s DGRU, is a prestigious institution fostering legal excellence and democratic governance. The DGRU, based at UCT’s Faculty of Law, is renowned for its research and advocacy in strengthening judicial systems and promoting good governance across Africa. This collaboration offers a unique platform for aspiring legal professionals to engage with judicial processes.

  • Perform in-depth legal research for judges using databases like Westlaw, LexisNexis, and Jutastat.
  • Prepare detailed memoranda summarizing research findings.
  • Attend court proceedings as required and assist in case preparation.
  • Draft speeches, legal articles, or conference papers for judges.
  • Proofread and edit legal documents to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  • LLB or equivalent four-year legal qualification accredited by SAQA.
  • Strong proficiency in electronic legal databases and law library resources.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Preference for graduates from Cape Town-based universities (UCT, UWC, Stellenbosch).
