The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is a statutory body established under the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, responsible for the protection and promotion of human rights in India through investigations, research, awareness and policy recommendations.

NHRC conducts an Online Short-Term Internship (OSTI) programme for eligible students interested in human rights, public policy, governance and research. The two-week virtual programme includes expert lectures, interactive sessions, research activities and discussions on human-rights issues and mechanisms.
• Participate in expert lectures and interactive sessions
• Undertake research activities relating to human rights
• Participate in group discussions and workshops
• Study legal, policy and governance issues
• Engage with human-rights mechanisms and NHRC initiatives
• Complete assignments and activities prescribed under the programme
• Undergraduate students: 3rd year / final year
• Postgraduate students: Any year/semester
• PG Diploma students and research scholars
• Students pursuing 5-year integrated postgraduate programmes from 3rd year onwards
• Minimum 60% marks in Class XII and first four semesters of the attended degree course
• Students who have previously attended an NHRC internship are not eligible
Selection Criteria
Selection is based on a score out of 100:
• Class XII: 30 marks
• Graduation: 40 marks
• 250-word Statement of Purpose: 30 marks
