How to Apply

The Department of Legal Affairs (DOLA), established in 1961 under the Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India, is responsible for providing legal advice to various Ministries and Departments of the Central Government and managing government litigation. The Department offers internship opportunities to provide practical exposure to legal research, policy analysis, and government legal functioning.

  • Conduct legal research and referencing work.
  • Assist in legal advisory assignments.
  • Study court functioning and government litigation processes.
  • Support officers in drafting legal notes and reports.
  • Research constitutional, administrative, finance, labour, economic, and infrastructure law issues.
  • Assist in arbitration and contract law-related matters.
  • Submit research assignments and monthly reports.
  • Indian students who have completed:
    • 2nd year of a 3-year LL.B. course; or
    • 3rd year of a 5-year integrated law course.
  • Law graduates from recognized colleges, law schools, or universities.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with advanced computer skills such as:
    • MS Office
    • Infographics
    • Adobe Applications
    • Research and Documentation Tools

  • Final Degree Certificate (for graduates)
  • Supporting academic documents

Application Process

  1. Visit the official Internship Portal of the Department of Legal Affairs.
  2. Fill out the online application form.
  3. Upload all required documents.
  4. Submit the application before 12 June 2026, 5:00 PM.

Selection Process

  • Applications will be shortlisted according to Department guidelines.
  • Up to 50 candidates will be selected for each internship cycle.
  • Selected candidates will be informed through the Internship Portal and email.

Deployment

Selected interns may be posted at:

  • Main Secretariat, New Delhi
  • Central Agency Section, Supreme Court of India
  • Litigation High Court Section, Delhi
  • Branch Secretariats at:
    • Chennai
    • Mumbai
    • Kolkata
    • Bengaluru

Certificate of Internship

A Certificate of Internship will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of the internship, subject to:

  • Minimum 90% attendance.
  • Satisfactory performance evaluation by the supervising authority.
  • Submission of monthly report and assigned research work.

Terms & Conditions

  • Internship is full-time and physical in nature.
  • Working hours: 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
  • Interns must arrange their own accommodation.
  • Confidentiality and non-disclosure obligations must be followed.
  • Internship does not create any employment rights.
  • Formal dress code is mandatory:
    • Black Trousers
    • White Shirt
  • The Department reserves the right to terminate the internship at any stage.
