How to Apply

The Department of Legal Affairs (DLA), under the Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India, is responsible for providing legal advice to various Ministries and Departments of the Central Government. It also manages litigation involving the Government of India and oversees important legal and legislative matters. The Department regularly conducts internship programmes to provide students with practical exposure to the functioning of government legal institutions.

  • Conduct legal research on various legal and policy issues.
  • Assist in preparation of legal notes, briefs, and reports.
  • Study government litigation and legal advisory processes.
  • Support officers in legal documentation and case analysis.
  • Participate in discussions on legislative and policy matters.
  • Prepare project reports assigned during the internship.
  • Attend orientation sessions and departmental activities. 
  • Students pursuing a 3-year LL.B. course who have completed the 2nd year.
  • Students pursuing a 5-year integrated law course who have completed the 3rd year.
  • LL.M. students.
  • Fresh law graduates may also apply, subject to the applicable guidelines.
  • Candidates must be enrolled in a recognized institution/university. 
  • Interested candidates must apply online through the official internship portal of the Department of Legal Affairs.

    Application Process:

    1. Visit the official internship portal.
    2. Complete the online application form.
    3. Upload the required documents.
    4. Submit the application before the relevant internship cycle deadline.

    Applications are scrutinized by the Department, and shortlisted candidates are informed through email or the official portal.
