The Global Rights and Legal Team at Elsevier is a collaborative group of attorneys, contracts managers, and legal professionals working closely with business teams to deliver practical and strategic legal solutions while safeguarding the organization’s interests.

The Associate Counsel will be responsible for:


Reviewing and drafting contractual documentation including service contracts, work orders, and statements of work

Ensuring contracts comply with applicable law and Elsevier/RELX policies

Identifying and escalating high-risk legal issues

Drafting contracts using standard templates and inserting appropriate legal provisions

Proofreading and reviewing legal documents for accuracy, consistency, grammar, formatting, and compliance with templates

Reviewing and updating contract templates as required

Summarizing legal documents and legal principles

Supporting contract-related projects such as training, automation, and process improvement

Working collaboratively with senior team members and other departments

Maintaining strict confidentiality and professional discretion

Applicants should meet the following criteria:


Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from a recognized university

Experience working in a legal team, either in a law firm or in-house environment

Strong knowledge of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and copyright law

Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts

Basic knowledge of the publishing industry

Strong writing, communication, and report-drafting skills

Project management skills

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Ability to work under tight schedules with strong organizational and prioritization skills

Experience working with software, systems, or applications is preferred
